New Design Requirements of 2016 for the Eco-design for Non-directional Lamps and LED lamps

As of February 27, 2016 the Regulation (EU) 2015/1428 will formally come into force. The Regulation amends Regulation (EU) 244/2009 eco-design requirements for non-directional household lamps. Also, the Commission Regulation (EU) 1194/2012 will be amended relating to the ecodesign requirements for directional lamps and LED lamps.

• The definition of “special purpose lamp” will be amended to:

a lamp in which technologies are used subject to this regulation , but which is intended for use in special applications due to its technical characteristics as described in the technical documentation. Particular applications are applications that require technical characteristics which are not required for the normal lighting of spaces or objects in average conditions.

Special applications are:

• applications requiring technical properties which are not required for the illumination of ordinary spaces or objects in average conditions;
• the definition of “traffic light bulb” is determined;
• the definition of “tungsten halogen lamp”” is determined.

Changes in 2016 for directional lamps and LED lamps

The definition of product for specific purposes shall be adjusted in accordance with the Regulation for non-directional household lamps.

• Luminaire is amended in paragraph 28
• The definition of “traffic light bulb” will be determined.
• Annexes I , III and IV will be amended amongst others on new requirements for the equipment for functionality that is designed to be installed between the AC and lights

Non-directional household lamps and LED lamps require before they are placed within the unial market of the European Union to comply with the requirements for CE marking. The responsible market operator must comply with guarantee to comply with the CE marking and ensure that the lamp meets the requirements out of the relevant European Directives and Regulations . The applicable Directives may include:

• Eco Design Directive 2009/125/EC
• Low Voltage Directive 2006/95/EC
• EMC Directive 2004/108/EC
• RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU
